Dubai-based Meraas has announced the launch of The Green Planet, the region’s first bio-dome that recreates the world of a tropical forest with its rich biodiversity of over 3,000 plants and animals.

The enclosed ecosystem, located at City Walk, will offer visitors an immersive expedition into the tropics, the company said in a statement.

The building will includes a 25-metre tree, which is the largest indoor man-made and life-sustaining tree in the world.

The project is scheduled to open in the first half of 2016, within The Green Planet, a green canopy will cover the lush tropical vegetation, recreating the natural habitat of an abundance of species and giving visitors glimpses into the beauty of another world.

The bio-dome will integrate exhibitions and displays that encourage visitors to explore the inner workings of the ecosystem.

Designed to embrace principles of sustainability, The Green Planet is built around the desire to contribute to environmental consciousness in the region.

Meraas said it expects the building to become a must-visit attraction for residents and tourists alike.

In February 2015, Damac Properties had also announced plans to build a tropical rainforest – Dubai Rainforest -, which would replicate a “dense jungle environment” using numerous plant species, within its Akoya Oxygen development in Dubailand.
