Danube renames Dubai project in honour of Bollywood ‘Starz’

Danube Properties, a part of Dubai-based Danube Group, has renamed Dh300 million Ritz Tower, a residential project in Al Furjan, to Starz Tower after the name clashed with another registered trademark.

“We had named our project Ritz Tower by Danube after securing no-objection certificates and approvals from all relevant authorities. Later it was realized that the name clashed with another registered trademark,” said company General Manager Atif Rahman.

“We have never had any intention of trademark infringement and the fact that our entire project portfolio carries ‘By Danube’ as a postfix stand testimony to that. Upon being informed about the matter, we immediately decided to rename the project given our long standing association with Bollywood stars.”

The developer said there were no legal proceedings as it the issue was mutually and amicably resolved.

In January 2016, Emirates 24|7 reported that international TV and movie star Anil Kapoor had purchased a two-bedroom apartment in tower, which houses 446 apartments.

Work on the project, “100 per cent sold”, has commenced with Atlas Foundations being awarded the enabling works and pre-construction services contract.

“The site survey and soil investigation has been completed with the final soil investigation reports received. The traffic impact study is being carried out, while the consultants are working on the detailed design which will then be submitted to the authority,” said Rizwan Sajan, Chairman, Danube Group.

Besides Starz, the developer’s portfolio includes Dreamz, Al Furjan, and the Glitz trio in Dubai Studio City, valuing its real estate portfolio to Dh1.5 billion.
